Hinter dem internationalen Namen verbirgt sich das Solo-Projekt des Nürnberger Songwriters und Autoren Jan Bratenstein (Städtischer Kulturpreis in 2020). Er surft geschickt durch den großen Antifolk-Folkpunk-Lo-Fi-Blues-Americana-Ozean und knurrt dazu alberne, satirische oder auch mal düster reflektierende Texte, die bereits Dead Moon’s Fred Cole explizit geadelt hat. Jan performt mit Klampfe und Mundharmonika – respektlos, einfach grandios hingerotzt. Die Black Elephant Band ist so etwas wie die Ramones des Folk.
